Best Gentle & Effective Skin Care

Finding effective but gentle skin care can be a bit of a challenge. Having eczema prone, sensitive or sensitized skin makes it even more challenging. I’ve been really loving that these products are gentle enough to use on my daughter’s tween acne prone skin.

Cleanse

January Labs Pure Gentle Cleansing Gel does not lather up. It has a gel-like feeling that is strong enough to breakdown makeup but does not leave your skin feeling stripped or dry. I use this on its own when I’m not wearing makeup as an evening cleanse, and as a facial wash in the morning before I begin my skin routine.

Tone

After cleansing my skin in the morning, I love using Laneige Cream Skin Toner & Moisturizer. This has been a favorite of mine from the first time I used it. This is a toner and moisturizer in one. You can layer up with the product. Every layer feels like another layer of hydration.

Every other evening, I use Josh Rosebrook Daily Acid Toner as a gentle exfoliating and toning treatment. This has a slightly fermented, earthy scent to it. Because it is an exfoliating product, I use this mostly in the evenings. This leaves your skin feeling hydrated. I follow up with a hydrating serum when I do use this.

Treat

January Labs Advanced Eye Technology Eye Cream is designed for ‘all skin types including dry, mature and those concerned with fine lines"‘. This has a great slip upon application that will help you to prevent tugging at the delicate skin around your eyes. It has an immediate hydrating feeling. I spoke to January herself on Clubhouse and she noted that this eye cream is safe to use all around the eyes. I have been applying this eye cream on my lids as well as my upper lip. Sounds weird right? My upper lip feels dry sometimes and nothing seems to soothe it quite like this eye cream. Best of all, this eye cream never irritates my eyes.

Visha Skincare Advanced Correcting Serum is designed to combat skin aging and hyperpigmentation. I use this in the mornings and evenings. It has a smooth texture and is odorless. Sometimes I use this on its own and other times I layer it with other serums.

Moisturize

These two moisturizers are very different formulas. One feels more like a balm and the other, a lotion. Both offer beautiful moisture to seal in all your products.

January Labs Moisture Balancing Lotion is great for all skin types. On the Credo website, it notes that it is good for “all skin types including dry, mature, sensitive, blemish-prone, combination and normal skin”. This moisturizer feels lightweight and is odorless. It has a flip cap tube packaging which makes it great to stand on your vanity and is easy to open. This is a favorite for my daughter who has oily, pubescent skin. I enjoy using this in the morning and evening.

Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm Cream is great for normal to dry, dehydrated, and sensitive skin. This balm is great on its own or to layer upon another moisturizer. As well as offering hydration and restoring your skin, this balm is also designed to help repair your skin barrier. I have used this in the morning when my skin is feeling extra parched, but I mostly use this in the evening. This formula gives a glorious glow. This does have a fresh, earthy scent to it that wears away after a couple of minutes. If you apply this during the day it does not pill under SPF. If you live in the USA you can check it out here at Ulta Beauty.

Sunscreen

I’m very picky with sunscreen because my eyes are really sensitive and tend to burn with most SPF. Sometimes my skin even burns upon application. Can we say #sensitiveskin problems?

To my delight, Addy (@skincareinscrubs) a fellow skincare instagrammer, who also has sensitive eyes, gifted me some sunscreens to try. Two of these are chemical sunscreens which I’m always apprehensive to try, but they ended up amazing me.

  1. Black Girl Sunscreen SPF 30 notes that, “skin is skin”. This sunscreen is environmentally conscious, and has naturally moisturizing ingredients. It is created by a Black woman with a diverse team that puts customers first. The phenomenal thing about this sunscreen is that it does not burn my eyes. This is a big deal for me. Previously, I have never tried a chemical sunscreen that does not burn my eyes. Black Girl Sunscreen blends in to your skin seamlessly with zero white cast and gives the most gorgeous glow. I use this in the morning before I head out to walk the dog. This is my go to spf when I’m working from home, running errands or wearing makeup. It’s my go-to spf. It makes your skin look beautiful by offering a dewy glow when worn by itself. It also layers well under makeup.

  2. Bolden SPF 30 Brightening Moisturizer is a moisturizer that combines Vitamin C and broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) protection. This is a beautiful formula that also does not burn my eyes or leave a white cast, and it a pleasure to use. This SPF leaves more of a natural finish. This also works well on it’s own and layers well under makeup without pilling.

Lip Masks & Balms can be super nourishing or irritating to your lips. These two lip products have been extremely moisturizing and nourishing on my lips.

Jouer Cosmetics Essential Lip Enhancer Balm is a hydrating lip balm that is packaged in a tube. It brings your lips back to life. Your lips feel supple and soft. A must-have lip product that smells amazing but not intrusive. I have one in the car, my handbag, and my vanity. I love that it is packaged in a tube so that it easy to apply without dipping my fingers into the product.

Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask is designed to address dryness, fine lines, dullness, and uneven texture. This lip mask feels soothing on my lips and has a jelly texture. This is packaged in a tub and comes with a little gold spoon to dip into the product. I have since lost the spoon and dip my finger into the tub to apply the lip mask. I use this at night when I am finished with my skin routine. I really enjoy the way this feels on my lips.
