Clogged Pores and congested skin happens to all skin types. Throughout the years you might have seen many gadgets and products promising to unclog your pores. If you don’t want to take the risk involved with trying products and tools that might damage your skin, let me share my favorite mask that I’ve repurchased over the years that helps clear my skin from blackheads and congested pores;
Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask.

Skin Types
You might be happy to know that this mask claims to be good for normal, oily, combination, dry and sensitive skin. Throughout the years, my skin type has changed due to where I live and aging. Living in a hot humid, densely populated area vs a cold, dry rural area can cause your skin to behave differently. Your skin type can also change as you grow older. For example, my skin was very oily in my teenage years and into my twenties. Now, in my thirties, turned combination to dry /dehydrated. Regardless of the changes in my skin I have used Origins Clear Improvement and it has worked every time.
What Is This Mask Good For
This mask claims to unclog pores, to deeply detox your skin, absorb environmental toxins and dissolve impurities. They boast about ingredients such as bamboo charcoal and white china clay that will ‘act as a magnet to deep clean & draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, impurities & debris.’ I have noticed that my skin appears to be less congested when I use this mask.
How to Use it
Over the years, I have used this mask mostly as the instructions suggest.
Wash your skin with your favorite cleanser. I tend to use an exfoliating cleanser before using this mask.
Place a warm towel over face to open pores. Running a wash rag under hot water then ringing out the excess the fastest an easiest way I’ve encountered to get my ‘warm towel.’
Apply a generous layer of mask. Using a skin spatula makes applying this mask a lot easier.
Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse well. Re-wetting the same wash cloth, then using it to remove the leftover mask works well.
Follow with your favorite moisturizer. I tend to follow with a hydrating/ balancing toner then use a light weight moisturizer.
Where to find it
Sephora, Ulta and Amazon are my go to places to find this mask. I once purchased it from an independent retailer, but I paid a lot more. It comes in two sizes;
1. Mini Size 1 oz/ 30 mL, and
2. Standard size 2.5 oz/ 75 mL
