By Mario Makeup Collection: Breakdown & First Impressions
Here we are, October 2020 and Mario Dedivanovic released his own makeup line, Makeup by Mario. 2020 Has been a rough year thus far, but for us makeup lovers, this collection may just add a little sparkle. This collection is quite extensive for the eyes and can be a bit confusing since the names and the packaging are quite similar. It can even be a bit daunting to you if you are new(ish) to makeup. I thought I would dissect what’s in this collection before we get into makeup looks, tutorials, swatches and recommendations. So here’s what in this post…

CONCLUSION : WHAT WE THINK
WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
Mario Dedivonovic is a famous professional makeup artist that’s been in the makeup industry for 20 years. His highlight and contour techniques became a fascination of mine when he demonstrated great skill with Kim Kardashian’s makeup looks. Around the twenty-teens, the beauty community was a buzz with Kim Kardashian, her makeup and makeup artist, known as Mario. I love his style of makeup, which I would describe as fresh, edgy, sophisticated and glamorous. Since then, I have always admired his work and now that he has released his own makeup line, I am excited to dabble and try it. Let’s get into this collection:
What’s in this by Mario collection:
Eyshadow Palettes
A mixing agent

The Master Collection
Eyeshadow Palettes
There are 3 eyeshadow palettes in this collection, all containing sole finishes, either all matte, shimmer or metallic. The names of the palettes are quite similar. All the products start with, “Master”. The packaging is quite similar as well. Here are the finishes of the palette with their names.
The matte palette: Master Matte Eyeshadow Palette
The chromatic/satin palette: Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette
The metallic palette: Master Metals Eyeshadow Palette
A Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette
This has 12 matte eyeshadows that is meant to be universally flattering for all skin tones. It is designed to have minimal fallout, with medium buildable coverage with a creamy feel, making it easy to grip onto your eyelids which makes me think there should be zero patchiness. The palette is inspired by human skin tones. This palatte will be great to create everyday looks or full glam, promising to be smooth and easy to apply, it should be worth the purchase if you are looking to restock your mattes or new to makeup. The palette will suit all eye colours and skin tones.
Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette
This palette is made up of 12 chromatic, metallic eyeshadows that is ‘inspired by colours found within our bodies and represents Mario’s love for human nature’. The shades range from natural to intense and supposed to have high shine. It can be used dry or wet to achieve the level of intensity you desire. He recommends using the E 4 Brush to pat on and build the eyeshadows. Shades Metallic 1, Metallic 5, Metallic 7 and Metallic 8 can be used as a highlighter for face or body. I swatched this palette using my finger without the assistance of lotion or primer and they swatched beautifully. I did notice a difference in textures of the colours.
Master Metals Eyeshadow Palette
The Master Metals Eyeshadow Palette has 5 shades of high intensity, full coverage metallic shades. They have a gel/powder technology that renders it smooth with the ability to be applied directly to the lids or to be manipulated with the *Master Metal Manipulator, which can be purchased separately. Using the E 4 brush is recommended for this palette. This also swatched beautifully.
Master Metal Manipulator
This is ‘pro mixing liquid that transforms metallic pigments into long-lasting, molten metal shadows and liners to create editorial effects’. It is a liquid mixing agent that can turn your metallic shadows into a foil finish. It also promises to turn the pigment into a long lasting formula, making it transfer resistant. I seriously can’t wait to get into this. It seems a bit intimidating… but it is only make up and I plan to play and experiment when I do not have a place to go {pandemic}.
Master Crystal Reflector Highlighters in the colours; Bronzite, Citrine and Quarts
These highlighters have crystal reflectors that look like micro glitter and come in 3 shades. Bronzite, Citrine and Quarts. They do not offer a colour payoff but more of an airy reflect to the skin. It can be used as a topper to create a spot light wherever you want on your face, since it only adds a beautiful sparkle effect without pigment. This is has been compared to the Fenty Diamond Bomb Highlighters, but this appears very different in my opinion.
Master Secret Glow
The Master Secret Glow is a balm that adds a glow and is completely transparent. You can apply it to bare skin, directly to wherever you desire a glow, or layer it onto your makeup. From swatching it does not feel sticky, but seems to have a grip that is not too tacky. (*You can see a swatch of this on my latest instagram post or see more of this collection swatches tomorrow on my Youtube channel.)
Eye Primers Sets
Available in shades Light, Medium & Deep, this Master Eye Prep & Set kit has two shades of primer and concealer and a translucent powder. Designed to address uneven skin tone or provide options when you have a tan or lack there of. This kit serves as a base for your eyeshadow, makeup touch ups, or to correct eyeshadow mistakes. I like that this kit is neat, portable and has a mirror, making it easy to check your makeup on the go. These do not require a perfect colour match, as you can custom blend to suit your need. Using the flat end of the EF 1 Brush is advised for application.
Eyeliners
Master Mattes Liquid Liner
These are felt tip liquid liners that are available in black. It is meant to be smudge-proof and offers full pigment. After swatching this, I attempted to rub it off, and it did not smudge. The felt tip felt (lol) both sturdy and flexible enough to offer full control of eye application.
Master Mattes Brightening Pencil
This is a soft, blend-able, multitasking pencil used to brighten the eyes. You can add this to your tear duct, your waterline or under the brow to create a highlighted look that is not stark white or too dark. This comes with a sharpener that has a cleaning stick to avoid remnants in the sharpener.
Master Pigment Pro Pencil in Super Black and Brown
With a brush on one end and a gel based smooth pencil on the other, this dual ended eyeliner makes it easy to apply, blend, or layer. I loved that this glided on when I swatched and it blended out so easily. Just being able to flip this pencil around to access the brush cuts blending time in half, since I don’t have to fumble around to find a blending brush.
Brushes
EF 1 Brush - Dual ended brush to apply, blend and set.
EF 2 Brush - A crease brush that can be used to apply highlighter
E 3 Brush - Multi-use brush, can be used to apply all over lid colour
E 4 Brush - A packing brush used to apply cream or powder
E 5 Brush - Detailer/blending brush to apply and blend eyeshaow
Useful Add Ons
Gentle Makeup Remover Wipes
Designed to remove fall out or your entire makeup look, the Gentle Makeup Remover Wipes are biodegradable, oil and fragrance free. The packaging is resealable, making it travel friendly. I would probably only use this to wipe away fall out from eyeshadow, as I otherwise do not typically recommend using makeup wipes as a solution to remove makeup. A pre-cleanse solution, such as an oil or balm will be a gentler way to remove your makeup.
The Master Eye Collection Artist’s Box
This is the entire collection, including a storage case, making it easy for a beginner or a professional makeup artist. The Artist box includes everything in the collection in addition to the Box. This looks very attractive and retails for USD $545 as seen on the Makeup by Mario website. As it is neatly compartmentalized when open, all your products will be neatly tucked away when closed. This box looks more like a high end brief case than a clunky makeup case.
The Master Eye Collection
You can purchase Master Eye Collection, which is all the makeup and tools in the collection without the case for $495. This is useful if you want to revamp your makeup collection or start a makeup collection. For someone now starting out, this looks like a comprehensive set that will have most of what you will need to create glam looks. Lashes, glue, tweezer, brow scissors are some of the things you may need to complete an entire eye-makeup collection, unfortunately these items are not included in the Master Eye Collection.
Conclusion
Now that we have gone through every item in this collection,
covered what each product is supposed to do,
and how to use it,
I hope this helps you decide which items you might value in this collection. I will be posting an unboxing and swatching YouTube video very soon. In the mean time, comment and let me know what you think of this collection and if you will be trying or have already tried any of these products.
